The Saga Continues.......

After much flocculating, brushing, vacuuming and filtering we succeeded in getting the water well on it's way to recovery before all the red mud stained the liner. However, once we were able to see the bottom we were also able to see that we now have a number of very large creases in the liner. Not a difficult fix, except for the fact that we have to drain the pool so it can be fixed - so there goes $750 worth of hauled water down into the lake.

Maybe I should re-cap and make a list of all our pool experience so far.

1. Work began on Aug 18th. and we were expecting it to be all finished within 2-3 weeks - or so we were led to believe.

2. Work came to a halt for a few days because the spa had not showed up. Then (and I'm not holding the pool guys responsible for this one - it rained..... hard).

Once everything was dried up the ground was graded in order that it would drain properly in the future!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. The concrete was poured and we discussed the color and the poor finish with the guys who poured it and were assured it would be fine when it was dry - It isn't fine.

4. Fri August 28th. We headed off to Florida for a week, fully expecting most of the work to be done when we returned. (We figured that a guy who'd been putting in pools for 37 years could cope without us). Wrong again

5. We arrived back from an awesome week in Florida to find things pretty much the same as we left them. No one seemed to know where the liner was or even if it had been ordered yet. It eventually arrived and was installed on September 10th.

6. Maybe we're being unfair. They did do some stuff while we were away - let's take a closer look..........

Looks fine except for a few small details........

a) Nice heater - but wait, we have propane and this one is designed for natural gas.

b) Pump looks good - but NO, it's the wrong one, not enough HP

c) We seem to have a couple of leaks that will need to be fixed.

d)The cell that converts the salt to chlorine looks very 'futuristic'.... Pity it doesn't work properly and will need to be replaced.

e) We will soon find out also that the non return valve from the spa is installed incorrectly and the spa water will drop every time we use the pool cleaning system.

Anyway let's not worry about a few minor details right now - here comes our sparkly and rather expensive water.

7) The fence shouldn't be too much of a problem so let's take a look at that.....

a) Gates not installed straight OR to code. They should open out and they open in.

b) The latches are installed at the wrong height - that won't pass inspection either

c) Some of the caps that fit on top of the posts are missing

At the end of the process, (well, we thought it was the end) we had sod laid inside the fence and a patio put down. For this we hired a different contractor and we would recommend him to anyone (Pity he doesn't install pools). This is the tranquil scene before we were hit with the tail end of Hurricane Ida.

I refer you back to point #2 - where I said that they graded the land to avoid future drainage issues - WRONG AGAIN

We are now working on putting in drainage ourselves and are waiting for all the problems caused by poor drainage to be put right under the warranty of the work done so far- we shall see..............Hopefully we will get the pool closed before Christmas. If not we'll just throw some floating wreaths and candles in and enjoy the view...
